News from The Arthur Holt Library
I think we can all agree that this year has been something of a challenge. In recognition of this, we wanted to give those boys who managed to complete the Premier’s Reading Challenge (despite having every reason not to) an extra big congratulations. And what better way to reward a reader than with a book.
After careful consideration we chose R J Palacio’s new book ‘Pony’ for all the boys in Year 7 who managed to complete the challenge and the first instalment of Rick Riordan’s latest fantasy series ‘Daughter of the Deep’ for the boys in Years 8 and 9. As the authors of ‘Wonder’ and the Percy Jackson series respectively, we felt pretty confident that the boys would enjoy their books. Maybe they might like to write a review of them for the Library Catalogue.
The Arthur Holt Library also welcomed next year’s Year 11 IB Diploma cohort into the library to begin their preparations for the Programme’s core subjects. The Library staff have been getting the boys started with their CAS portfolios, while Mr Webster introduced them to the intricacies of Theory of Knowledge. Together with the Extended Essay, these subjects are a mandatory part of the IB Diploma Programme and must be completed by every student.
It was also a welcome opportunity to introduce the boys to the Library space, which will become their home during next year’s timetabled IB Work sessions.
“The unread story is not a story; it is little black marks on wood pulp. The reader, reading it, makes it live: a live thing, a story.”
