CAS Cricket
Saturday saw the 1st XI play in the annual CAS T20 tournament. This year it was Trinity’s turn to host, and the 1st XI arrived bright and early for the 8am match against Waverley. Trinity lost the toss and got off to a disastrous start, losing two wickets in the first over. The batting did not really improve from that point. The only bright point was the last wicket partnership between Sam Newton (11WJ) and Sean Turner (10Mu). They put on 23 runs. Sam’s six over cover was definitely the shot of the innings! Defending 73 was going to be tough, but Trinity bowled and fielded well and had Waverley 5-45 when the rain came. Ryan Gupta (11WJ) was on a hat-trick at one stage on his way to 3-7. Unfortunately for Trinity the Duckworth-Lewis calculation saw Waverley victors by five runs.
Trinity’s second match commenced at 2.30pm and Cranbrook posted a total of 6-146. Trinity was never in the hunt with the chase. The batting lacked intent from the outset and the side limped to 6-65 off 20 overs. A big improvement will be needed next week.
This weekend sees the first round of fixtures for all teams against Barker College. I wish everyone the best of luck.
