Assembly Performance

Congratulations to the Prestissimo Jazz Ensemble who performed at the Primary Assembly this week. This group rehearses every Wednesday morning, where they are learning the fundamentals of jazz and improvisation. We look forward to hearing them perform again at the Art’s Festival in Week 6.

Congratulations also to Jeremy Leung who performed at the Infants Assembly this week.

Kindergarten Music

In Kindergarten, our boys have been fortunate to have a live performance from our Head of Strings, Ms Kate Morgan on cello and our violin teacher, Ms Aeree Kim. Last week they came to our Music class to demonstrate the cello and violin. The boys have had a chance to hold these instruments to see whether they may like to start learning one of these instruments. Boys are welcome to enrol in the Private Tuition Programme via the online form. Please contact the Music Office or Ms Goodman – Director of Junior School Music, if your son has shown an interest.

Year 5 Music

Year 5 has been actively involved in Djembe drum circle playing in their Year 5 Music lessons this term. Boys enjoyed demonstrating their knowledge to their parents at this week’s Student-led conferences.

Music Performance suggestions

You may be aware of some wonderful performances happening in Sydney. Here are some of my favourites as possible suggestions for your family.

The Very Hungry Caterpillar Show – The Playhouse Sydney Opera House

Eric Carle’s The Very Hungry Caterpillar and friends come to life on stage in a joyous theatrical experience for children 18 months+ and their families.

The Gruffalo – Riverside Theatre

Join Mouse on a dancing adventure through the deep dark wood to the magical, musical adaptation of the classic picture book by Julia Donaldson and Axel Schaffer. Ages 3+

Tubby the Tuba – MTO at Balmain Town Hall

https://www.metorchestra.com.au/event/tubby-the-tuba-22sat/

Join Tubby the Tuba as he searches for a special melody to play with the orchestra. In this playful, interactive cushion concert, children will follow the engaging story of Tubby while also discovering the different instruments of the orchestra through a collection of fun music created by Australian Composer Sean O’Boyle AM. Bring your cushions and rugs to either a morning or early afternoon session where you will be able to listen to wonderful music that highlights different instruments including Liquorice Noodles for Clarinet, Flipperdiperus for Flute, Galloping Goanna for Xylophone, Duelling Fiddles for Violin, Lonesome Prairie for Trumpet and Tuba Toothpaste for Tuba.

How to Catch a Star – ACO at Pier 2/3

https://www.aco.com.au/whats-on/2022/how-to-catch-a-star

In a stunning adaptation by Sandra Eldridge, Jeffers’ magical tale about reaching for dreams will be brought to life on stage through storytelling and exquisite new music by Elana Kats-Chenin performed by an ACO string quartet. Recommended for ages 2-8.
