Library Kahoot

This week during Library borrowing the students completed a Library Kahoot to help them learn more about the Library space and resources in the Library. It was very popular, and the students were very excited to answer all the questions!

Queen Elizabeth II

Queen Elizabeth II was born on 21 April 1926. She was Queen of the United Kingdom and other Commonwealth realms from 6 February 1952 until her death on September 8, 2022.

Her reign of 70 years and 214 days is the longest of any British monarch and the longest recorded of any female head of state in history. This week in the Library we celebrate her life.

Library Lunch Times

It has been wonderful watching students enjoy the Library space with their friends playing games, drawing and reading. We have also noticed that students are actively helping each other during break times with finding books, shelving and sharing activities.

Book Review by Nadene O’Neill

This week, the Prep Staff Book Club have been reading Exit Through the Gift Shop by Maryam Masters. This book was on the 2022 CBCA Book of the year Shortlist: Younger Readers. This book explores the challenges life can throw at us through the eyes of an optimistic 12-year old. The protagonist seeks support from those around her as she faces often heart-breaking life experiences including a terminal cancer diagnosis, blended family dynamics and experiences of bullying. This book engages younger readers using drawings, varying fonts and strategically placed definitions, and the themes are made accessible through the use of humour, hope and an optimistic approach to life. While this book may present a challenging and perhaps confronting read for students whose lives have been impacted by cancer, I can recommend this book to general upper primary readers to explore themes of connection, relationships, hope and optimism through life’s challenges.
