Weekend Sports Roundup – Basketballers cock-a-hoop
Buzzer-beating basketballers stole the show as no fewer than three Trinity teams scored last-gap victories against St Aloysius and the firsts sealed an early premiership title.
The fifths, having trailed by 17 points at half-time, had narrowed the gap to two points with 1.8 seconds left on the clock when Tim Squires (12Yo) hit a three-pointer to secure a 35-34 win, their first of the season.
The 9Cs also had everything to play for with two seconds left on the clock when Jayden Rodger (9Ta) got open at the top and hit a three-pointer to snatch a 48-45 win.
The seconds trailed by five points with 30 seconds remaining before Ollie Orr (12Ho) hit a three-pointer and Isaac Khoury (11Ke) scored two, then backed up by coolly slotting free-throws to secure a 48-45 win.
The firsts, meanwhile, won 93-61 to confirm themselves as undisputed CAS Premiers with one game to go.
Trinity teams won 66 of the weekend’s sporting contests against 32 losses, with tennis recording its best result of the season, 16-4, and the 7s winning all matches.
Cricket won 6-4, with the seconds giving themselves a chance to finish top by recording a five-run victory, Ujwal Yadem (10Fo) starring with bowling figures of five wickets for five runs.
Jayden Paskaranathan (8Du) scored 83 for the 8As and Pranav Gupta (7Mu) got the 7As home with an unbeaten 33 in a final wicket partnership of 33.
Water polo came out on top 10-4, touch football 4-3, table tennis 5-1, and volleyball 3-0, while chess scored an impressive 7-5 win over traditionally strong opposition.
Several Trinity students have won representative honours.
