Trinity volleyballers are in top form in an expanded competition while AFL teams have scored strong wins in their first matches after three wash-outs.

Volleyballers won nine of their 11 matches against Cranbrook at the weekend, with the firsts winning 3-0 and the seconds 3-2.

With Year 7 and 8 teams competing for the first time, the only losses were in the 7 and 8 Bs.

The AFL firsts recorded a 92-point win over traditionally strong opposition in Shore, and the Year 7/8 team won by an even bigger margin.

Other sports had their challenges.

Rugby teams won two of 17 matches against Oakhill, with the firsts and seconds going down 21-38 and 17-20 respectively.

Football had 14 wins and 15 losses against Cranbrook, the firsts scoring a 2-0 victory and all Year 7 teams winning.

Tennis went down 4-12, though the firsts lost narrowly on a countback 34 games to 38 after tying four matches all.

The U16s and U14s both won their cross country races at the Knox and Cranbrook Invitational at Upjohn Park, and the Opens finished seventh.

Individual performances included third to Luca Gillard (12St) in the Opens, first to Mathew McLachan (11WJ) in the U16s, and second to Patrick McMahon (8Du) in the U14s.

Fencer Thomas Deller (11Ho) won a gold medal in the U18 Roberta Nutt Shield individual epee competition.

In debating, the Year 10 ISDA team won against Ravenswood to reach the quarter-finals and the FED Senior B team won against Monte to progress to the semi-finals.

The chess seniors drew with Sydney Boys while the Intermediates and Juniors both won 4-0 against St Pat’s and Fort St.
