Weekend Sports Roundup – AFL victory over league leaders
Trinity’s AFL seconds have recorded one of the biggest turnarounds of the season, beating the previously undefeated competition leaders to boot.
The seconds turned a 50-point loss in round one into a 22-point victory, beating Waverley 60-38.
Lucas Blum (12Ar) led the way by kicking five goals, half the team’s score, in his first game for two years due to shoulder injuries.
Trinity football teams won 16 and lost 14 of their matches against Cranbrook, led by a 3-1 victory for the firsts.
Rugby won seven of the 16 matches; the firsts went down 7-27 and the seconds 7-12, but the 15Bs scored their first win of the season by 46-24.
Volleyballers were on song, winning eight of the 10 matches, including the firsts by 3-1.
Trinity hosted a cross-country event at Ewen Park where the U16s and U14s both won and the Opens came third.
All tennis was washed out.
Trinity sportsmen were also busy on the representative scene during the recent term break.
Thomas Deller (11Ho) won the epee gold medal at the Australian Senior Schools Fencing Championships in Canberra, while Max Meagher (12Hi) represented the NSW Schools rugby firsts in Queensland and Marcus Mastro (11Mu) the NSW juniors.
