Winter sport ends with twin CAS titles

Trinity volleyballers and cross country runners have finished the winter sport season with strong performances to claim CAS premierships.

The volleyball firsts defeated Waverley 3-1 to reclaim their title, one of nine victories from 10 matches on the final weekend.

The Open cross country team won the Neil Logan Shield with a one-two-three finish from Kobe Stewart (10Yo), Matt McLachlan (11WJ), and Sam Oliver (9St) at Upjohn Park.

Josh Lubke (10Ta) came second as the U16s missed out on taking the Michael Spratt Shield from Cranbrook by just two points, while Nathan Jones (8Mu) and Sebastian Sentas (8Ar) filled the minor places in the final UJ14s event.

The football firsts defeated Waverley 2-1 to finish runners-up to Knox, and the seconds won 1-0.

Tennis firsts and seconds both scored comprehensive 8-0 victories, the perfect way for the seconds in particular to finish an undefeated season.

Rugby teams had a tough day, winning one of 16 matches, but the victory by the 14As was a significant one, 38-17 over previously unbeaten Waverley, to remain undefeated themselves.

AFL finished with two wins and two losses, headed by the seconds beating previously undefeated Barker 35-19.

If players and parents felt it was a particularly wet season they were right – around one-third of almost 1,000 winter fixtures had to be cancelled.
