Weekend Sports Roundup – Big improvement v Knox
Trinity’s basketball, volleyball, and water polo firsts all turned in stirring performances against Knox on a sporting weekend of notable advancement.
The basketballers were dominant, winning 80-50, with the seconds also winning a tighter contest 57-51 and the 10Cs overcoming a 15-point deficit to get up 31-28.
The volleyball firsts won a closely fought match, eventually edging home 3-2 by winning the fifth set 15-11.
The water polo firsts looked like doing the same, leading all the way until Knox equalised at 12-12 with just 20 seconds to go.
But Trinity’s water polo teams won four matches – twice as many as last year – with two draws and two losses on a weekend that reflected considerable growth.
The School won 35 per cent of the latest round of matches against Knox, compared with 26 per cent in term one and just 18 per cent a year ago.
Table tennis came out on top with four wins and two losses against Newington, touch football had just one win from eight matches, and the 8A and 8B teams were the only winners in 16 tennis matches.
Most cricket matches were affected by rain, resulting in draws, typified by the first XI which was in a strong position, but the seconds managed to win by seven runs after bowling Knox out for 85.
