Weekend Sports Roundup – Bailey’s net gain

Bailey Macarthur (11WJ) produced one of the highlights of weekend sport by draining seven three-pointers to guide the basketball firsts to a resounding 108-48 win over Cranbrook.

Basketball was one of the mainstays of Trinity’s successes, producing 22 wins against 17 losses, with the seconds also winning 61-33.

Theo Leckie (11La) hit the decisive three-pointer for the fifths to break a deadlock in the final minutes and the 9B, 9F, 8I, 8J, and 8Ks picked up their first wins of the season.

Volleyballers also came out on top three matches to one, with the firsts winning 3-0.

The firsts prevailed 5-3 in tennis, too, though it was one of five wins against 12 losses, a figure boosted by Year 8 teams winning all matches in the As, Bs, and Cs.

It was a similar story in water polo with the firsts winning 13-8, one of two victories against four defeats. The other win was a first for the season by the 15As.

The cricket firsts finished in a strong position at 5-367 on day one; Patrick Thomson (11Sc) top-scored with 123, and Sajith Kundar (11Ke) made 78.

The touch footballers went down 2-6 to Riverview and the six table tennis teams were unable to eke out a victory against Knox, the competition’s strongest side.

Trinity won 38 per cent of the matches against Cranbrook, a marked rise on the 29 per cent in term one.

In representative news, Jayden Paskaranathan (8Du) has been selected in the CIS U15 cricket team.
