Classroom Learning

Year One’s Unit of Inquiry examines how people express themselves through the arts. In our library lesson we looked at two picture books where street artists use chalk on the pavement to express themselves. After class discussions around these books, the boys then went outside to the concrete and used chalk to draw. The boys had a great time and wanted to know when we would be doing this again.

Week 5 Book Week Reminder

Friday 19th August (Week 5) at 9am we will be having our Book Week Parade in the School Sport Centre. Parents are warmly invited to attend.

Students will take it in turns to walk around the gym in class groups in their Book Week costumes as music is played and the rest of the Junior School looks on. It would be great if boys also have the book with them in their hands as they walk around the parade.

We would like to encourage boys to find outfits that they may already have at home when dressing up as a book character.  We are big fans of upcycling clothes and props from around the house, as a way of being environmentally friendly and resourceful.

Some suggestions for your consideration are:

Where is the Green Sheep?; Captain Underpants; Mr Men - Mr Messy
The Very Hungry Caterpillar; Saucepan Man - The Faraway Tree; Lorax - Dr Seuss
Diary of a Wimpy Kid; Do Not Open This Book; Fox in Socks.
Where The Wild Things Are; Scarecrow from Wizard of Oz

Hopefully these suggestions will provide some inspiration for what to wear on Friday 19th August.

We will also be having a Book Fair in Week 5, with books from Scholastic Publishing Company being available for purchase before and after school from Tuesday to Friday. This will be set up in the JS Library.
