News from The Arthur Holt Library

Ask anyone what is the first thing that they think of when they hear the word ‘library’, and they will (of course) say books. And indeed, books lie at the heart of everything we do here in The Arthur Holt Library. It is therefore entirely fitting that our latest co-curricular should be a book club.

But Arthur’s Readers is no ordinary book club. Rather than choosing books for everyone to read, the boys prefer to keep things open. In fact, the club is more like a gathering of like-minded people that might tell each other about their favourite writer one week, then have a heated discussion about some movie adaptation the next.

The group has become an integral part of our library. They help us to think up ways to improve reading culture here at Trinity and even have a hand in selecting books to add to the library’s collection. And in return we give them longer loan periods and a place to meet.

This term the group have been planning all sorts of outreach activities, one group made golden tickets to go in their favourite books, another created a hand-drawn poster to encourage TGS readers, and our Year 10 students prepared a Quad presentation and Open Lunch for interested readers. Bryan Yu (10Ta) presented to Quad on Monday morning and interested students were invited to the AHL to see what the group was about. About 10 students who were not previously members of the group showed up and the boys participated in a Literature-themed Kahoot, which was won by Priyann Thanujan (9We).
