News from The Arthur Holt Library

Since the exam season is finally over for Year 11, and Year 12 are heading into their final week of school, there has been a distinct shift in the atmosphere of The Arthur Holt Library. Instead of fighting for space in the silent study area during recess and lunch, the boys are now more likely to be found relaxing in the lounge or playing board games in the Seminar Space pods.

We’ve even set up the giant chess board, which is always a huge hit with the departing Year 12s. No doubt it helped them prepare for the student vs teacher chess tournament which we hosted in the library after school on Wednesday. We expect so, since their victory was decisive.

The last few weeks of term also always involve some small degree of housekeeping. It’s time to remind everyone that their books need to be returned. Fines for overdue books will be issued towards the end of next week, so make sure you check your shelves for any that you might have forgotten about. Of course, we are also open for holiday borrowing. With the rains set to return, a good book might just be the best plan you can make.

“The person who deserves most pity is a lonesome one on a rainy day who doesn’t know how to read”

– Benjamin Franklin
