Double gold at Oceania titles

After superb performances at the recent Australian Age Championships, winning the 200m Individual Medley for the third consecutive year, Trinity’s own Grayson D was selected to be one of a 16 promising young swimmers (eight male and eight female) to represent Australia at the 2024 Oceania Swimming Championships, held at the Gold Coast Aquatic Centre from April 21 – 24. 

This year’s event saw Grayson showing his professionalism and power in the pool as he won gold in both the 200m and 400m Individual Medley events. 

When asked about his experience, Grayson humbly stated that he “had just the best time, and learnt so much from the experience. I am so proud to have represented my country for the first time.”

Oceania Championships have historically been held every two years, coinciding with the Olympic and Commonwealth Games years.  With 15 countries competing under the Oceania umbrella, it is a great opportunity for swimmers to get a taste of international competition.

But Grayson is not the first Trinitarian to compete at the Oceania Championships, with Trinity alumni Theodore Pasialis (2008) competing in New Zealand in 2008, Kenneth To (2009) competing in New Caledonia in 2012, and Nathan Zhu (2016) competing in Fiji in 2016.

Grayson said that he “felt a sense of pride and belonging”, as he read the championship program and saw that Kenneth To was the Oceania record holder in the 200m Individual Medley. “Kenneth was one of the best ever medley swimmers in Australia.” 

Trinity’s Director of Swimming Mr Benjamin Tuxford said that “it was fantastic to see Grayson rewarded for his recent dominance in the medley event at a National level, and he has continued this on the international stage”.

Grayson has now returned to Summer Hill, and is preparing for the CIS Swimming Championships next week (6-7 May) and

looking forward to the Paris Olympic Trials in Brisbane (10-15 June).
