Weekend Sports Roundup – A night to remember

One of the School’s most exciting nights of basketball ended in a 72-90 loss to Newington but will be remembered as much for the rousing atmosphere and support the team enjoyed.

Co-captain Myles Buvac (11WJ) was moved to speak at quad assembly thanking the Trinity fan base, which included old boy basketball stars Davo Hickey from the NBL and visiting US college star Tyrese Proctor.

The NSW independent schools final between the CAS and GPA champions “didn’t finish the way we had hoped but your support was appreciated and the atmosphere was electric”, he said.

“It reinforced the bonds between us and strengthened the spirit of the School.

“Your support does more than you can imagine.”

Acting Headmaster Brad Barr echoed his sentiments, saying it was a “spectacular” occasion where the Trinity team enjoyed outstanding support.

Much of the weekend sport was washed out but Trinity rugby teams won six of their 10 matches against St Pius, although the firsts lost 5-29 and seconds went down 12-34.

Football may have registered only one win against Knox, compared with 14 losses, but it was a notable one, the firsts winning 3-2 to reverse a 7-0 loss last year.

Volleyballers won seven of their 11 matches, the firsts winning 3-0 and the seconds 3-2.

The Year 7, 8, and 9 debating teams all won to progress to their quarter finals.

Logan Toohey (11Ke), meanwhile, has won representative honours in the NSW CIS U18 touch football team.
