Battle Of Bands hits new heights
The Battle Of The Bands set new benchmarks in musical achievement, with winner Jonathan Bassily’s (12Yo) original composition doubling as his IB submission.
“Just when you think a Battle of the Bands can’t get any better, it does,” enthused Director of Co-Curricular Music Michael McGregor.
“This year’s event was next level in power, passion, and multi-media extravagance.”
Jonathan’s original song Lovin’ in the Dark impressed judge Tim Firth, a session drummer who has performed with Thirty Merc, James Morrison, Emma Pask, Caitlyn Shadbolt, and Uncle Jed, as well as the Sydney Symphony Orchestra.
The judge had difficulty choosing a winner, commenting on the vocals of Kavi Suri (12Yo) as Freddie Mercury and Andy Lin (11WJ) in Counting Stars by One Republic, as well as the theatrics of Men in Pink with I’m Just Ken, and Amigos Americani’s Taylor Swift tribute.
The Roadies Award went to There Goes Me’s original Walk Again, and the Rising Stars Award to Year 8 band Limitless for Toto’s Hold the Line.
