Holiday Reading
As the School Term comes to an end, there are plenty of activities we all look forward to during the slower pace the holiday offers. One of our personal favourites, and of many students and their families, is reading. If you or your son have read a wonderful book over the holidays, please make note of it and tell us about it when you next see us. We love hearing about books you have enjoyed and learning about a new book that we haven’t heard of before.
Drawing Competition
We are wanting the boys to help us in labelling sections of the Library in ways that they believe would make the space seem more inviting. Currently, each section in the Library has a poster to direct boys to what genres are kept in those areas and the books have stickers. Whilst we currently use the following images, we are hoping that boys will use their creativity to share new ideas with us.
Requirements for a poster
- Choose one genre.
- On a white A4 sheet of paper, draw out a poster that will help other students know which books are kept nearby.
- Your poster must include the name of the genre and an image to represent that genre.
- Once complete, go over the lines on your poster in a black marker to make them easier to see from a distance in the Library.
Posters are due to the Library at the end of May, so students have plenty of time to work on their creation. If they would like to do more than one genre, they are more than welcome to. Once the poster is complete, please hand it to Library staff.
Author Spotlight – Tui T. Sutherland
Tui T. Sutherland was born on July 31, 1978 in Caracas, Venezuela. Her mother, who is from New Zealand, named her after the tui, a bird native to that country. Tui has lived in Asuncion, Paraguay; Miami, Florida; and Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic; before moving to New Jersey in high school. While in high school she began doing theatre, which consisted mostly of backstage work. Tui graduated from Williams College in 1998, after which she abandoned her ideas of a career in theatre in favour of a career in fiction writing, which she found to be more stable.
Tui is the author of the #1 New York Times bestselling Wings of Fire series, as well as the Menagerie series and the Pet Trouble series. She also writes under a number of pen names, including Heather Williams, Erin Hunter and Rob Kidd.
Tui lives in Boston, Massachusetts, with her husband and their two children.
